Paul Gemmell, MACP
Registered Psychotherapist
My primary area of practice, by which my work is anchored, is in exploring relationships, both with others and with ourselves. Through building self awareness we can navigate life’s challenges with more clarity, which may sometimes mean exploring hard life choices. Finding our centre and our life compass can help us with anxiety, interpersonal interactions, and living life in wellness overall.
My aim is to help with weathering the storms of life and getting (or staying) on course with where we want to go. Apart from relationships, I can help explore life stages, life anxieties, men’s issues, cultural awareness and issues, and interpersonal communication. I take wisdom from all corners of the earth and incorporate it into an evidence-based approach in a down-to-earth way. I primarily use a Narrative therapy approach, where we learn through our stories, and a Humanistic approach, which support the idea that we get to make choices in life and be responsible for them, as well as strive to be the best “self” we can be. I am a certified MBTI practitioner (self awareness) and have great respect for CBT modalities (which involves reducing the intrusive negative thoughts in our brains) when a client’s situation calls for such intervention.
I grew up living between Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa for most of my life. I embrace all seasons and in 2025 you might have found me skating on “the canal” embracing that unique Ottawa vibe. I’m all about living in wellness, building a strong sense of self awareness, and learning to “zen out” whenever necessary to better balance life and what it throws at people. That is part of the basis from which I navigate most of my work as a registered psychotherapist: getting as close to the life we want under the context of the circumstances we’re in.
I completed my undergrad studies in psychology at both the University of Ottawa and Carleton, and I am now a Registered Psychotherapist with a master’s degree in counselling psychology (MACP) from Yorkville University.
